i like...

however, i have to lobby for ratatat's 'seventeen years' to be upgraded from "honorable mention" to "very special honorable mention"

I'd have to say that my favorites out of this list were Oval's and Secret Machine's...both great tracks

But I just have to include some of my own tidbits into this selection...and that'd have to be the opening tracks from these Appleseed Cast albums:
Low Level Owl Vol. I (Walking of Pertelotte)
Two Conversations (Hello Dearest Love)
Peregrine (Ceremony)

In the beginning...ASC always had a sort of common theme or setting behind the composition of songs within a certain album (for example Mare Vitalis's representation of the vast and longing elements of the sea)

but as they continued to grow as a band and as songwriters...the concept of an album having a theme developed into an album having a story that was told almost chronologically from track 1 to the end...giving each song an intensified relationship to the rest of the songs in the album.

With this context, these three opening tracks beautifully immerse the listener deep into the treacherous depths of the story on which they are about to embark

I would like to describe each track more in depth, since they each open up the respective album's story in their own respective flawless ways, but that may be too much for a simple comment, haha. I know you've heard the opening track to LLO I, but I'm not sure if you've heard the other ones. Definitely give them all a listen.

[robosexual sez: I agree that they are great tracks, and I meant to put the Appleseed Cast in the "honorable mentions," especially for "Ceremony." (now done) Thanks for the comment!]
